The only striking sport on this site fought in footwear, and the only one where the shoe is the legal striking surface. Savate boots are not general training shoes with a different label — the reinforced toe and instep exist because those surfaces are what strike, and the whole technical vocabulary of the sport assumes them.
What to look for
Buy from a savate specialist and buy the competition model if you intend to compete, because federation rules specify construction. Fit should be snug with no movement inside the shoe; a foot sliding inside a boot at the moment of a chassé is how toes break. They are useless for every other code on this site, where kicking in shoes is prohibited.
