Unusual power for the division, built around a finishing right hand. The first MAX champion and one of the longest careers in the sport.
Albert Kraus won the inaugural K-1 World MAX tournament in 2002, which makes him the first champion of the division that would go on to produce the best fighting of the K-1 era. Beating Masato in that final also established, immediately, that the lighter division would not simply be a Japanese showcase.
He fought with more power than the weight class usually carries, and his right hand finished fights against opponents who were technically his equal. Over a very long career that power stayed while the defensive margins narrowed, which is the ordinary arc for a fighter who spent two decades in range.
His record is one of the largest in European kickboxing, and reaching that volume at MAX level across three promotions is the achievement his single title understates.
