Gabriel Varga became the inaugural GLORY featherweight world champion at GLORY 20 in Dubai and held the title twice, which makes him the most successful North American kickboxer of the modern era by some distance.
He is also a useful corrective to the assumption that the sport belongs to Europe and Japan. Varga came up through the Canadian amateur system, turned professional at home, and reached the top of a global promotion without relocating to a Dutch gym — a route almost nobody else in the division took.
