Focus mitts

Typical price
€40–110

Small hand-held targets for hand work, timing and counters. They give far better feedback than Thai pads on whether a punch was accurate and structured, and they let the holder present openings and counter-punch, which is where most of the learning happens.

What to look for

A curved striking surface and a snug wrist strap; a mitt that shifts on the hand transmits impact to the holder’s wrist. Do not use them for kicks — the padding is not built for it and the holder’s shoulder pays. Pair with Thai pads rather than replacing them, since neither covers what the other does.

At a glance

  • Best feedback available on punch accuracy and structure
  • Lets the holder present openings and counter
  • Not for kicks — the shoulder takes the load
  • Snug wrist strap protects the holder’s joints
