Kick shield
- Typical price
- €60–160
A large rectangular pad held against the body, used for full-power kicks, knees and teeps where a Thai pad would be unsafe for the holder. It is the tool for developing genuine kicking power, because it is the only pad you can hit as hard as you can.
What to look for
Thick, dense and large enough to cover the holder’s torso. Handles on the back and a top strap let the holder brace properly. The main safety point is instruction rather than product: the holder must brace with a staggered stance and absorb through the body, because standing square with a shield takes a teep straight into the spine.
At a glance
- The only pad safe for genuinely full-power kicks
- Handles plus top strap so the holder can brace
- Staggered stance when holding, never square
- Also the best tool for developing the teep
