Shin conditioning, without the mythology
You are not killing nerves and you should not be rolling bottles on your shins. What actually changes is bone density, and it changes slowly.

What is really happening
Repeated moderate loading causes bone to remodel and become denser and thicker along the loaded surface — the same adaptation that makes any loaded bone stronger. There is also a genuine reduction in pain sensitivity from repeated exposure. Neither of these is nerve destruction, which is the folk explanation and is both wrong and a description of an injury.
What to actually do
Kick heavy bags and pads regularly, with correct shin contact, over years. Spar with shin guards and check kicks in training. That is essentially the whole programme. The adaptation comes from the ordinary work of training the sport, applied consistently over a long time, and there is no shortcut that compresses it.
What not to do
Do not roll bottles or rolling pins down your shins expecting adaptation — it produces bruising and periosteal irritation, not density. Do not kick trees, poles, or anything immovable and unyielding. Do not train through shin pain that persists at rest or worsens overnight; that is a stress reaction and continuing will turn it into a fracture. Micro-damage that heals is the mechanism, but only if it is allowed to heal.
The timescale
This is measured in years, not weeks. Fighters with visibly conditioned shins have usually been kicking heavy bags several times a week for a decade. Rushing it produces stress fractures, which cost more training time than patience would have. Treat it as a side effect of consistent training rather than a training block of its own.
