GLORY middleweight is best known now as the division where Alex Pereira held a title before doing the same at light heavyweight and then in mixed martial arts. The pairing he built here — left hook and left high kick from an identical starting path — is the most-copied setup in modern kickboxing.
Historically the division was the American full-contact era's strongest, where Jean-Yves Thériault held a world title for longer than almost anyone and Bill Wallace retired undefeated. Those careers sit under a completely different rulebook, which makes cross-era comparison at this weight particularly unreliable.
GLORY and K-1 agree on 85 kg, so the modern division is at least internally comparable.
